Founder of the chapter, Danny Meaux says, “We promote Dutch Oven cooking, but the name of the chapter is Latanier Cookers. That means ALL cooks are welcome. We encourage cookers to join the Chapter, but you can contribute to the meal, covered dishes are always welcome, or come and cook with us even if you’re not a member.” The current membership fees is $10 per family. At this time only LA Dutch Oven Society dues apply.
Cooking outdoors isn’t just for boy scouts and campers. Try something new, there is more than just Bar-B-Q for outdoor cooking. Latanier Cookers will even help you get started. Ask about their 'Reserve a cook' program. For a donation they will purchase the groceries, provided the pot and supplies and help you cook your first dutch oven dish step by step. Dutch oven 101!
Latanier cookers is a chapter of The Louisiana Dutch Oven Society. L.D.O.S. has chapters organized across the state. Most of them are connected to the State parks in their area. So no matter where you are in Louisiana, there is probably a D.O.G. within an hour or two's drive of your location on almost every weekend. Visit www.ladutch.com to find out where the next D.O.G. is scheduled for the weekend. The society was formed '…..To promote the opportunity for all Dutch Oven cooks to gather and better their skills through friendly Dutch Oven Gathers (D.O.G.). Promote the art of Dutch Oven cooking through demonstrations and local D.O.G.s. Engage in charitable, literary, social, educational and other activities that promote the art of Dutch Oven cooking.’ Their Motto is : Good folks gathering for great food and great fun!
